Kippax Parish Council are proposing to purchase 2 more benches to go alongside the new path on Kippax Common.
These benches purchased from and installed by LCC cost ?2000 each. Local Ward Councillors have provided funds for one bench. If anyone want to fund the second one as a memorial bench, Kippax Parish Council will fund and organise a plaque to go on the bench.

PCSO Simpson visited Micklefield Church of England Primary School on Tuesday to talk about Water Safety. Sessions were delivered to Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. The pupils engaged and understood the dangers of going into open water. Lots of fantastic questions were asked and answered.

A motorcyclist has died after a crash in Sherburn in Elmet. The crash happened at 7.55pm on Saturday June 6, 2026 on Sir John?s Lane and involved a silver Suzuki motorcycle and a blue Mazda vehicle. The rider of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers from North Yorkshire Police are asking for anyone who witnessed the collision, has any relevant dashcam footage, or who may have seen either vehicle prior to the incident, to come forward.

Residents in Bramham, a few miles from Wetherby, might have noticed the tremor on Thursday (21st May) night. The British Geological Survey (BGS) has confirmed that the 1.2 magnitude quake hit the village at around 10.44pm on that date. It was a relatively deep seismic event, with the BGS recording a depth of 27km for the tremor near Leeds.

Without a venue, Feastival organisers feel they can no longer provide this free event going forward. This cancellation follows on from the disappearance of the annual community Bonfire and Firework Display.

A search of a vehicle at the scene recovered what turned out to be a BB gun. One man was arrested on suspicion of assault. Further checks led to a second man being arrested. Both are in custody as Leeds CID continue their investigation.

From 13 January, Sherburn residents can pay for their licence for the 2026 garden waste collection service. A licence costs ?52 for collections between March and early December. The licence covers one 240-litre wheelie bin to be emptied fortnightly. Anyone who wants to have more than one bin emptied, will need to pay for a licence for each additional bin.

Seven young students from Stagecoach Performing Arts Garforth and Wetherby have appeared in the latest series of Channel 5?s Animal Care Club, filmed at locations across Yorkshire. The children were selected to take part after submitting headshots and self-tapes, and went on to help care for pets, farm animals, wildlife and zoo animals. The successful students, aged 7-9 and from Garforth, Micklefield, Rothwell, Methley and Wetherby, assisted vets and animal carers at sanctuaries, wildlife centres and farms across the region learning first-hand how to care for animals while being part of a national TV production.

Makins in Micklefield wants to continue using 84 static caravans at its Sturton Grange strawberry farm near Garforth. The company was first granted time-limited permission in 2009 to house mainly European fruit pickers who arrive in the UK under the Seasonal Worker visa scheme. The plans for the soft fruit farm to house up to 325 seasonal workers will go before a panel of councillors. If granted, a current planning application would allow use of the caravans for another six years at the Ridge Road farm.

2025-10-20 Plans for Recycling Centres
|
|
Proposals to revise the use of recycling centres to North Yorkshire residents to generate savings and improve access are set to be considered by councillors. Under new plans, owners of commercial-like vehicles would also be allowed up to 12 free visits a year to dispose of their own household waste at the county?s 20 recycling centres. If introduced, it is estimated to generate savings of up to ?405,000 per year and will improve access due to fewer visitors.

A group of people representing Yorkshire Ambulance Service, including Community Responders, Nurses and non clinical staff, were joined by Red Watch from Garforth Fire Station to help deliver CPR training to all year 8s at Garforth Academy. In total they trained around 285 students.
